The CABI lab once again participated in UW-Milwaukee's Make a Difference Day! We went to three homes in the Milwaukee community to help older individuals with spring cleaning in their yards. It was great to be away from our computers, working outside, and meeting some of our wonderful neighbors!

CABI lab graduate students, Kana Kimura and Yuju Hong, attended the Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society in Toronto, CA. They presented posters on the effects of prior knowledge on neural memory representations of scenes, and they met up with trainees from the Brain and Memory Lab and Mrinmayi Kulnari - a UW-Milwaukee alum who now works with Dr. Rosanna Olsen in Toronto. Exciting to share our work and hear what's going on in the field!
Another year, another Saturday spent talking to the public about the wonders of the brain! Lab members Saisha and Sophia volunteered at the Brain Expo hosted by the Medical College of Wisconsin as a free event dedicated to increasing public understanding of brains and brain research.
CABI lab students Kana, Cara, Yuju, and Saisha presented posters at the annual Society for Neuroscience meeting in Washington, DC. They also made some time for sightseeing and socializing with members of the Long Term Memory Lab from UVA! Their posters are available for download below.
The CABI lab will be taking part in a virtual event for prospective applicants from underrepresented backgrounds. See the flyer below for more information and to register for the event. Come by and chat with Cait about the possibility of joining our lab for Fall 2024!

The CABI lab took a trip to Florida to present our work at the Context and Episodic Memory Symposium (CEMS). Kana, Maddie, and Cara presented posters on their ongoing work, and Cait gave a talk on concept learning in older adults. Dana, a PhD student in Debbie Hannula's lab, also joined us and presented a poster. We had a great time, and not just because it was at Disney World! CABI lab undergraduates Adam Bristol (top left), Alessa Ebben (top right), Jess Kania (bottom left), and Jacquline Rizzo (bottom right) all presented their work as part of the 2023 Undergraduate Research Symposium at UW-Milwaukee. It was a packed house and everyone did a fantastic job and made the lab very proud!
In honor of Brain Awareness Week, members of the CABI lab volunteered at the BrainExpo hosted by the Medical College of Wisconsin. We had lots of fun talking to the public about how brains work!
Two incoming UWM students, Yasmine Garcia Ramirez and Emilee Swanson, joined us this summer as part of the research intensive UR@UWM program. Here they are presenting their summer projects at the program's symposium. Great work Yasmine and Emilee and good luck starting college in the Fall!
Trainees in the CABI lab have been busy presenting work from the lab the last couple of weeks! Graduate student Cara Charles and lab manager Maddie Valdez both presented at their first in-person conference at Cognitive Neuroscience Society in San Francisco! Undergraduate research assistants Shawn Obarski and Saisha Birr each presented at UWM's undergraduate research conference last week. Congrats to all for their great work! Special congratulations to Shawn who is graduating - we will miss you!
