A new article was recently published from our lab in the journal Psychology and Aging. The article details a study led by PhD student Cara Charles where we tested how well young and older adults made inferences across memories with overlapping elements - like realizes that two people who you see with the same dog on separate occasions probably share a relationship with one another. We found that both young and older adults were able to make these inference but that older adults did not perform as well as young adults did. We also found some evidence that older adults were more likely than young adults to make inferences by integrating across the memories, losing some of their unique details as a result. You can find the full text of the article here.
Congrats to Cara on her first publication! She will be following up on this work for her dissertation project, looking to find strategies that may improve inference in older adults.
